Japan does not have a separate license specifically for destination management companies (DMCs). Instead, travel-related businesses are registered under the Travel Agency Act, according to the services they provide.

XPERISUS recommends the following five steps when evaluating any DMC or ground partner in Japan, itself included.

1. Verify the official registration. Request the travel agency registration number and check it against the official register published by the issuing authority.
2. Confirm professional memberships. Verify association memberships directly with the organizations concerned, rather than relying solely on logos displayed on a company’s website.
3. Verify consortium affiliations. Confirm partnership or membership status directly with the relevant consortium.
4. Check official supplier listings. For services offered through authorized agents, such as luxury trains, consult the operator’s official agent list and confirm availability separately.
5. Clarify your point of contact. Confirm who will be responsible for coordinating your client’s arrangements before and throughout their journey.
